:: INTRODUCTION ::

.......from racing driver to commercial helicopter pilot. This site will provide a wealth of information relating to Hyla's career as a helicopter pilot- targeted towards prospective employers in the helicopter industry and to those who followed Hyla's career as a racing driver.

G'day- welcome to my site!
Those of you who have followed my racing career for a time may be wondering where I disappeared to? Well I have set off down another path after over 12 years of pursuing a racing career in Europe- not easy when you consider racing is all I have done since I was a small boy.

To say that I have given up on racing is untrue, I still have my helmet at the ready, however my efforts and goals are focused solely on my helicopter career.
It's sometimes difficult for people to understand that motor racing comprises of two parts, the on-track which everyone sees and the off-track- the long and arduous sponsorship hunting and self promotion. In the end the off-track aspect- the constant let downs, the kicks in the guts, people trying to rip you off at every opportunity took it's toll. I didn't enjoy what I was having to go through off-track anymore even though I loved racing and competing and still do. I wanted more out of life and decided to do something about it.

The further up the motorsport ladder you get the more sponsorship money you have to find and more importantly in my case, things are taken out of your control till in the end your success depends solely on another person and without the right people behind you, you can't progress.

I am not angry about the way my racing career ended up as I've learnt so much and met a load of fantastic people and friends. Racing also took me into the instructing side of motor sport which has prepared me well for the helicopter flight instructing that I will be engaged in. I've found the similarities between the two industries with regards to instructor / student relationship to be the same- just one on the ground and one in the air.

I would like to thank all of those people who supported me over the years, the fans, the teams, the sponsors and especially my good friend and manager who without his support, the 2001 Lotus season would not have come together. The high level of success I did achieve wouldn't have been possible without them all.

One thing is for certain, my time in motor racing has prepared me well for anything I set out to do- which brings me to helicopters. My passion is flying helicopters, I have more control over the outcome knowing that if I work extremely hard I will make it- I will get there no question!!
I've enjoyed the challenge that the training I have received has given me- my single minded dedication and focus that got me to where I did in motor sport is relishing these new challenges.

Anyone that would like to know more about my flying endeavors and even racing please feel free to contact me.
In the meantime, please enjoy looking through the rest of my site.

All the best
